Track Your Ballot Via E-Mail Or Text Message

Track Your Ballot Via E-Mail Or Text MessageVoting smart is what Denver voters will be doing this primary season, with a mail-in ballot election for the August 10th primary.  But this year there is an added twist: the nations first ballot than will be tracked from the election office, to the voter, and back again.

The new system is called TRACE (Tracking, Reporting, And Communication Engine), and it was developed in a partnership between the Denver Election Division, i3Logix, and the US Postal Service.

While over half of Denver voters feel comfortable enough to use mail in ballots, there is always that sliver of doubt whether or not all the ballots arrive to be counted.  Not that this system will ensure a ballot won’t get lost, at least the voter can find out that his/her ballot didn’t arrive at the Election Division office and take the necessary steps.

However, if you still have concerns, there options to hand deliver your ballot to any of the 13 voter-service centers OR vote by touchscreen on August 10th are still available.

Personally, I still have my doubts about the touchscreen machines, and I am intrigued by the TRACE system.  It’s success could result in it being implemented in surrounding counties, and could even spread to Seattle and Philadelphia.  Which would be good news for i3Logix, the local Denver tech company that created the software.

Editorial Note:  As an update to my earlier post about the Colorado House District 7 race, it is now down to three candidates, all of whom reside in Stapleton.  My horse in the race is Mark Mehringer.  Among other things, he is the only candidate who refuses to accept contributions from special interests.  In particular the oil and gas industries.  I am a firm believer in the need to end our dependency on foreign oil and want to see Colorado lead the way in the renewable energy field.  For me, that includes electing someone like Mark as my representative.
